A Pop Warner Team With Heart
An amazing thing happened on November 10 at the Fallbrook High School football stadium. The Pop Warner Warrior Nation football team decided to forgo the funds they had raised to enable them to play in the Hawaii Bowl this month and instead gave the $18,000 to three Pop Warner families significantly affected by the Fallbrook (Rice Canyon) Fire.

"We received an overwhelming number of worthy applicants, but the grant awardees demonstrated the most need for Schutt helmets, whether it was the poor condition of their current equipment, or the lack of any protective headwear for the many new Pop Warner teams joining the organization in 2009." said Trevor Scholl, Pop Warner National Grant Coordinator.

"We're thrilled that through the support of sponsors like Schutt, our equipment grant program has been able to help so many associations be successful each year," said Sam Mutz, Pop Warner Football Commissioner. "Partners like Schutt Sports enable us to help our teams keep their kids playing in the best equipment on the field."
Equipment Grants Awarded!!
Congratulations to the following Wescon Associations, who will each receive 24 new helmets!!!

Pam & Holly are two coaches who do more than coach cheer technique.  They instill a feeling of community responsibility in their girls, and help them learn how it always feels better to be the 'giver'.

Back in 2006, expecting to move on to the National Competition, their team did a lot of fund-raising, in order to afford the trip.  Affected by the death of their Conference Cheer Coordinator's son in Iraq, their perfomance fell short at the Regional competition.  Rather than spend the travel funds on a big party, the team decided to buy toys for the Marine Toys-for-Tots program.
This season, a young boy on one of Temecula's Flag Football teams was excited to be starting his first year of football.  His name is Aidan, and sadly, the season never started for him.  He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor that begins in the nerve tissue of infants and very young children.  On the same day as the diagnosis, Aidan's mother gave birth to another child.

The girls were so moved by the difficulties Aidan's family were going through, that on a Sunday they descended on a 'Build-A-Bear' workshop and stuffed animals.  The girls delivered the Bears to Rady's Childrens Hospital (where Aidan is being treated), with a special Bear for Aidan.  Each girl had inserted a heart into Aidan's Bear, to show their love and support for Aidan and his family.  The girls also organized meal deliveries and gift cards for Aidan and his family.  (Read more about Aidan's family, and how you can help, by clicking HERE for an article that appeared in the North County Times.)

These ladies and 'their girls' exemplify the spirit of the Pop Warner program, and are to be commended for their acts of community involvement.  Not only is this team displaying a caring spirit, but the girls understand and eagerly agree with what they are doing.  As Pamela Cioffi (the head coach) puts it, 'This is what the girls remember.'
